Welcome OpenBSD 4.7
| March 29th, 2010I know its not released yet, but i downloaded it from the snapshots, once i read that the alc driver from freebsd had been ported and installed it, installation was very smooth and easy, i actually booted it from a usb drive using a tool from pendrivelinux and then did a http install . not only did it get my attansic card it also found my wireless card.
Anyways i have been waiting a long time to learn OpenBSD just for PF and now Mpls ( including MPLS VPN) which has just been added in this release. So expect blog posts on mostly OpenBSD from now on , i will not be removing slitaz in any way. as i will still by my primary Work OS, but i will not be trying and network stuff on it, just concentrating wholly on OpenBSD, So if any of you people have a acer aspire one D250 , be sure OpenBSD 4.7 just works on it.
Very good article. I own a Acer Aspire One D250. I have used OpenBSD for quite some time successfully however never on i386 or amd64 platforms. After finally taking the plunge to a i386 netbook. I want to run an operating system I’m familiar with (OpenBSD). Due terrible past experiences with other Unix-Like operating systems. On both the i386 and amd64 platforms with power and computer management (APM, ACPI, Intel SpeedStep and AMD’s Cool’n'Quiet/PowerNow!). I was wondering how well does OpenBSD 4.x support these technologies ACPI, APM, Intel Speedstep on your Acer Aspire One D250 ? What daemon do you enable (apmd_flag”-C” or acpid_flags”")? Does apmd interface with acpi on acpi only netbooks? Finnally Does suspend work?
rythmc my man, im just a babe in the woods where openBSD is concerned and the primary reason i have started to use it was due to its additional routing capabilities mpls etc, …but since 4.7 release has occured today and src is now available i will be getting more stuff done on openbsd and hopefully will be able to answer your questions later.
